Realizing that we 'sprung' ahead 1 hour, a couple of weeks earlier than the usual spring schedule, I ask whether we really are 'saving energy.' Do we use more energy at night vs the morning? Springing ahead an hour gives us more daylight hours in the evening but less in the morning. What are the stats? I'd like to know how many people are awake in the morning that compelled the law makers (or time changers) to make this change a necessity in an attempt to conserve energy. Or do we know? Is this just an experiment yet?
I still think my idea of 30 @ 1 each per day / evening is a better one than springing ahead or falling back an hour. We should join Sydney! This isn't much different than conserving energy in the summer when some utility companies put cities in a temporary brown out to save energy and reduce the haul in high temp conditions. Maybe if we participated in a 1 hour black out and shared that with other cities, that would be only 1 day a month for one hour that your city would wind down to conserve energy. Does that beat out changing a clock by 1 hour? Could you hang with that? I could.
